Crafts Markets in Mexico City

Wow, what a week!  This one was filled with hard work, some team drama, and a girls weekend in Mexico City.  First, here’s a photo from our meeting with Inifap (the Mexican equivalent of the US Department of Agriculture).  Yes, that’s me all dressed up in my business suit 🙂

We were ready for a break this weekend, so we headed back to… Mexico City!  Stacey and I decided we would explore the crafts markets and find some new good restaurants.  On Friday night, we found a really good Peruvian restaurant, Astrid y Gaston.  Here’s a photo of us enjoying some Pisco Sours.

Mexico is a huge city, so it’s split up into many different neighborhoods, similar to New York.  After a nice morning of sleeping in, Stacey and I headed to San Angel, a neighborhood in the South of Mexico City, to check out the Bazar del Sabado (Saturday Market).  The artists at the market were amazing!  We walked around for a while to check out all of the crafts and artwork, then stopped at a local taco shop for some lunch.  Next, we headed to a different part of the city, the Central Historic District, to visit the Ciudadela market.  This one was not our favorite.  It was a good place to get trinkets and souvenirs, but located in a very sketchy part of town.  We didn’t stay too long.  In case any of you are wondering… we did not take any taxis off the streets!  Here’s a photo with some of the cool artwork.

After a whole day of walking around, we were ready for some thai food!  We met up with some other Thunderbirds for dinner and it was great 🙂  Now we’re back in Texcoco, and getting ready for our final week here at CIMMYT.

Check back next week for some photos of the final presentation!

What fun you two girls must be having. The art work is so much fun. For some reason, watermelons are a popular subject in Mexico. Tamayo is famous for painting them. Pisco sours are tasty, verdad? You look so professional in your buisness attire. Enjoy Mexico! Love, DAD
